Priority Life Cover is affordable life cover from SA’s #1 Direct Life Insurer. You could qualify for up to R300 000 cover with no HIV test, no waiting periods for accidental death and no premium increases for the first 12 months. It includes a R25 000 death benefit to help your family cover your funeral expenses as well as a terminal illness benefit that pays out your full cover amount if you are diagnosed with a terminal illness.
Accelerated benefits are amounts paid from the total sum assured. This reduces the total cover amount paid out on the policy by the amount paid out. So for example the Pay now death benefit will pay R25 000 from the total sum assured for any immediate expenses and pay the balance of the cover amount once the claim assessment has been finalised, and the claim admitted.
Priority Disability Cover pays out up to R300 000 if you are disabled by one of the events detailed in your policy book, for example the loss of a limb or blindness. No medical exams or HIV tests are required. Premiums for events-based disability will only increase on the first policy anniversary and the premium guarantee period is also 12 months.
Yes, you can get up to R300 000 cover if you are HIV positive. Your policy will, however, only pay out for accidental and not natural death. No waiting periods apply for accidental death.
Yes there are certain waiting periods that apply. From the start of your policy, you are covered for accidental death. The waiting period for natural death claims are covered in the policy schedule that you receive once you take out life insurance with 1Life. There is also a two-year waiting period for suicide.
A natural death is caused by illness or old age and not by violence or injury as in the case of accidental death.
Your policy will not pay out if you commit suicide within 24 months of the commencement date or reinstatement date (date of first premium payment) of your policy. If you are covered for accidental death only, then suicide is not covered.
No, your 1Life life insurance policy does not have a cash value or any amount you can borrow against.
1Life requires that you inform us if you intend on leaving the country, whether for business, pleasure or permanently, before you leave to determine if we are able to continue cover. If you fail to notify us and a claim arises, 1Life may reduce or reject a claim.
1Life provides individual insurance cover, which means that you take out cover to insure your own life, in order to provide financial protection for your loved ones in the event of your death.
You can however get your family members covered by 1Life through separate policies, and pay the premium from the same bank account.
If you are diagnosed with a terminal illness and have less than 12 months to live as confirmed by the 1Life Chief Medical Officer, your life sum assured or cover amount will be paid out in full on a valid claim. This cover is not applicable if your waiting period has not yet expired. (See above: Are there any waiting periods that apply to life cover?)
