Disability insurance provides you with financial compensation if you are disabled by an accident or illness and unable to work.
Your eligibility for disability cover will depend on your health, lifestyle and type of employment. If you do qualify, your monthly premium will be based on factors such as your age, gender, health and occupation.
Your quote is based on your specific risk profile. The factors that will affect your risk profile are:
Age – younger individuals may pay a lower premium, as younger applicants are generally healthier.
Gender – the premiums are slightly lower on average for women.
Health – if you have a current health condition or a history of illness.
Lifestyle – if you participate in dangerous sports, such as regular sky diving, the risk of injury is higher and this would have an effect on your premium.
No, there are no medical exams or tests. You will however be asked a few health and lifestyle questions as well as be requested to complete an HIV test.
DebiCheck is a way you control how certain debit orders are taken out of your bank account. You confirm this once, at the start of the contract. This is done to inform your bank that you give permission for the money to be taken from your account. Find out more here.
1Life Disablement Cover pays out in the event of the disablement of the life assured, depending on the type and amount of cover bought.
There is no waiting period that applies to disability insurance, however there is a three month deferment period before your policy will pay out.
Failing to pay a premium may mean that you will not be covered for the specific month. Failing to pay two consecutive premiums will lead to a suspension of your cover. It is important to contact your insurer to make alternative arrangements.
