Show your funeral policy some love in the month of love!

Show your policy and your family some love and complete these five policy updates this Valentine's month. To complete your updates you'll need your policy documents. If you don't have these on hand, you can view them online on 1Life’s online policyholder services portal. You can also download your policy schedule from our WhatsApp service centre.

1. Check that all your loved ones are covered on your policy

What greater act of love for a family member than a respectable funeral. Check that all your loved ones are covered on your policy, including your children, and make sure their details such as full names, ID numbers and contact details are correctly reflected on your policy documents.

2. Only the best funeral is good enough

Have you seen the price increases over the last 12 months?! Funerals haven't escaped inflation increases either. Even a modest, respectable funeral can cost more than R20 000. Check today that the sum assured for you and any additional members covered is sufficient.

All members over the age of 13 qualify for up to R50 000 cover. Children covered on your policy who are under the age of 6 qualify for a maximum of R20 000 cover, so if your child is older and you feel a higher sum assured is needed, you can apply for an increase in the cover amount.

3. Tell your loved ones about your funeral policy's benefits

Did you know that if the main member passes, his/her funeral policy remains valid for two years, and then a senior member such as a spouse can take over the policy using 1Life Insurance's premium waiver?

Your funeral policy benefits also include a memorial headstone benefit for members older than 14 years, and a grocery benefit for the main member.

Check what benefits your funeral policy offers and share these with your loved ones so that they can make good use of them when the time comes.

4. Make sure your loved ones know how to claim

Death is a time for mourning, not worrying about whether or not there is funeral cover in place, how much it is and how to claim. As uncomfortable as it may be now, let your family know what funeral cover you have, who your insurer is, and how your beneficiary can start a claim when you pass. This will give them peace of mind when you are no longer with them.
